BENEFITS BIM workflows can provide significant benefits to both the client and project team - not least more efficient programming and better value. These include: • An accurate, working, 3D model that provides the client with clear design intent • Better outcomes through collaboration • Transparent working • Enhanced performance – more cost-effective and sustainable solutions • Reduction in information loss • Clash detection • Supply chain integration • Quality control • Building life cycle management • Accurate environmental performance design modeling The benefits of BIM have provided clear evidence to support implanting it across all public sector projects by 2016 as part of the Government's strategy; by understanding BIM and through early engagement, Param PMO can provide our clients with such tangible evidence and help support them through the design process 4D & 5D Alongside the 3D model, two additional dimensions – time (4D), and cost (5D) – can also be integrated within BIM workflows. On a basic level, these can lead to: • Faster project delivery through a more accurate project programme • Reduced waste • Easier extraction of quantities • Highly detailed cost management LEVEL 2 BIM We know that through BIM, Param PMO has the long-term investment potential to considerably reduce contract tender values, associated costs and project programme time scales while providing our clients, partners and supply chain with a more transparent and collaborative approach. Government Requirements and the BIM Maturity Model The BIM maturity model is set out from Levels 0 – 3; it encompasses the ability of the construction supply chain to operate and exchange information and defines the supporting infrastructure required at each level: • Level 0: Operating using unmanaged CAD 2D drawings through paper exchange. • Level 1: Managed CAD (2D or 3D) using a collaborative web-based application. Time and cost managed separately without integration into the existing model. • Level 2: Fully collaborative 3D BIM with all project and asset information and documentation as electronic. May integrate 4D construction sequencing and/or 5D cost information. • Level 3: Fully integrated BIM processes incorporating a sixth dimension - project life cycle management information By 2016, the Government will require all public sector projects to be working to the equivalent of Level 2 on the maturity scale as a minimum. At Param PMO we have been working to Level 2 since 2014 across both public and private sector projects. TRAINING & KEY SKILLS We have invested time and money to ensure our teams can deliver the best in building information design, with a focus on continuous improvement of our capabilities. Our ‘BIM Champions’ have produced and implemented training programmes tailored to the needs of each departmental function within Param PMO, with capabilities including: • Creation of 3D Architectural and MEP models • Co-ordination of model information across different software platforms to inform design progression • Environmental & Energy Performance Analysis • Linking time and lifecycle cost data to BIM workflows • Using BIM for quantification and pricing of works • Using BIM for onsite co-ordination and quality control The above skills allow us to deliver Level 2 BIM working across a range of different BIM capable software. We work collaboratively with clients to establish the most effective ways to implement BIM at a project specific level. This includes the creation of project specific BIM protocols based on PAS1192-2 and the Construction Industry Council BIM Protocol to ensure that key requirements and responsibilities are clearly set out.
